DRAWING ON INSTIUTIONAL WALLS
 (September 2017 - May 2018 )

During my last two years of college my senior thesis class of 3 students were given access to a studio space. A room that was previously appointed as the drawing studio, it was a spacious place surrounded by white walls. After spending hours of frustration in the room, conceptualizing, sketching and brainstorming to keep up with art projects and school itself, I soon found myself in a rut. Creating in a place surrounded by white walls depressed me and began to affect my ability to create. After this realization I asked the professor of the class if I could personalize my portion of the studio. To which he said “it’s your space, you can do whatever you want”.

Within months, the space expanded and grew, one drawing on the wall turned into 4 and 4 turned into 10 and 10 turned into 20. Eventually there was little to no white left to be seen within my portion of the studio. The space had been filled with drawings inspired by both anime and manga, graffiti, poetry, dream recordings, studies, practice of different art techniques and more. I had turned a place that I felt was stifling me, into a place that me and many others on my campus would consider to be home.
